Canon PowerShot A1100IS Green - By far the best Point-and-Shoot I've found

I have an undergraduate and graduate degree in photography - but I don't do a lot with it. In fact, I've pretty much taken a hiatus for about 12 years from shooting photography as an art form - except for one series of projects about two years ago that I did using my camera phone.

One reason I've held off for the past few years is that I've been waiting for a camera with the characteristics of the SD990IS. I wanted a point and shoot camera that would fit in a pocket, that was >14MP (with fantastic image quality) and that would have long battery life.

And that's what this camera is - it has met and exceeded every expectation. While the lense is a bit limited - and not what you'd want in an SLR - that's not what I wanted. I've been taking photographs in the mountains while skiing, assembling them into massive panoramas and having them printed in very large format. And the quality of these images is stunning.

I bought this camera in early December. I've charged the battery twice, despite frequent usage. I bought a 16 GB SD card, and it's been nice not to have to worry about running out of storage.

I highly recommend this camera!

Canon PowerShot SD960IS Silver - Amazing Camera!

This is the best camera I have ever owned. The photos are beautiful and the automatic red-eye correction is fantastic. It also takes pretty good pictures in low light without a flash. I took a picture of our christmas tree lit up and the rest of the lights in the house off and the picture was perfect. The wide angle lens is a definate plus. Well worth the price!

Canon PowerShot SD780IS Gold - Cool looking camera......Bad video quality

I bought this camera from best buy on sale. I did a few days of research and was leaning toward the sony t500. Then I saw this canon on sale so I picked it up. I am now returning it because the video quality is really quite terrible. There is noise all over it! Even on a bright sunny day outside, you could still see noticeable noise in the video. Also, beware the HD video. I had seen online where some people warned that it takes a lot of cpu to edit it. Well my pc couldn't even play back the video file without it being choppy. And I have a very nice pc! Just keep that in mind. I do have to say the camera itself looks very cool and the menu system is very intuitive. But looks can be deceiving.=)

Canon Orange PowerShot A470 to you

Excellent Camera For The Price. This is my first digital camera. I bought Canon PowerShot A470 Orange for $90, after a lot of research, and I must say it's well worth the price. I use Canon PowerShot A470 Orange primarily to take pictures of items for my online store, and Canon PowerShot A470 Orange provides very sharp, bright pictures for that purpose. I find that most pictures do need some color adjustment, which can be done with the software provided. The camera is very easy to use, and the software was easy to install. I love the macro feature for doing close up shots, and power zoom feature is great! The LCD screen is very bright and a good size.

The only complaint I have is that the color of the camera reflects off the shiny surface of the items that I photograph, which is my fault, because I just had to have the orange model! If you're taking pictures of shiny pieces of jewelry, glass, etc., buy the silver camera.

All in all, I'm incredibly pleased with the Canon Powershot A470. Canon PowerShot A470 Orange definitely lives up to the Canon name.
Preordered this one before Canon PowerShot A470 Orange came out, looks really cool. Simple, does what it's supposed to do and the best part is that Canon PowerShot A470 Orange used AA batteries. I don't even use the highest setting when I take pictures so 7.1 MP is more than enough for my use. For those who want to blow up to poster sizes, you should get an SLR, but for a normal everyday use camera this is the one to get. You could get more features for the price they are asking for but this one looks too cool.
Very intuitive. I bought this camera for my 14 year old son to take on school trips. His previous camera from another manufacturer lasted barely six months and took mediocre photos. This camera however is awesome! The pictures are sharp, perfectly exposed and the camera is really simple to use. Seems the menus are designed for regular people to understand. He appreciated that a lot.
The bottom line is he had one day to learn how to use the camera and then spent a week in Boston with his class. His photos were great and his camera experience was excellent...and I didn't break the bank for to purchase Canon PowerShot A470 Orange either :)

Take away Pink SD1200IS PowerShot Canon

Great Camera. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Pink is a great small camera. Highly recommended getting a screen protector for the LCD display.
Was very impressed on the battery life and the quality of the photos.
Awesome Camera. Pretty good camera. I've used Canon's for awhile and Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Pink one is definitely an upgrade. Still wish I could capture pictures easier without flash. Without flash you need ample light to capture a picture plus if the object is moving you need flash to ensure no blur. But you can't ask for too much with a Point and shoot. Pretty much better than any other brand for point & shoots though.
Love this camera!!!. I can;t believe how easy Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Pink is to use this camera. The pictures that Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Pink takes are so clear and crisp. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Pink has so many different features that I haven't even tried them all. One feature that is great is one that lets you focus in on one color in your photo and Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Pink only makes that color show up on your pictures. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Pink truly takes the best pictures that I have seen.

Read about A2100IS Canon PowerShot now

Very satisfied with SX10. I was lured to the SX10 after 3 years of great satisfaction with the Canon SX2 IS. Many of my photos are taken indoors at church events. I prefer to avoid flash so that I can be as inconspicuous as possible, but occasionally I require it. With ISO 1600 capability and a hot shoe for external flash, the SX10 fits the bill.

Canon made all the right tradeoffs for my applications. AA batteries are preferable to proprietary lithium ions because of their widespread availability and low cost. Having 4 AA's instead of 2 is a good tradeoff that provides longer battery life at the expense of size and weight. The vari-angle LCD lets me take photos from all angles. I prefer point and shoot to DSLR because the cameras are less expensive and more convenient to carry and use. Like its predecessors in Canon's S-series, the SX10 lets you record audio for each shot which is a great convenience for documenting landmarks during my journeys. 10 megapixel resolution is more than adequate for the online pictures I mainly use and even for my occasional enlargements of 16x20. The controls are very convenient to access. The video quality is excellent. Canon PowerShot A2100IS seems like Canon thought of everything.

I haven't decided yet whether to buy a Canon flash for maximum compatibility or a different brand for less cost at the expense of reduced compatibility. Since I use flash infrequently, I can wait to make that decision. In a little more than a week I've taken 500+ photos to experiment with the camera. I'm very satisfied that the SX10 provides the improvements I sought.
delivery was defective with not working. Hi guys,

I had done pretty good research before buying this product. seemed the best in my price range and configuration. however on using Canon PowerShot A2100IS seems auto mode is not functioning correctly. i don't see flash working, aperture control is not as expected, i find image blurred in case of movements

would be returning the product soon
thanks
Great camera !!!. Canon PowerShot A2100IS camera is amazing. If you want to have 20X optical zoom and zero cm for macro Canon PowerShot A2100IS should be your camera of choice. I am using digital cameras for 15 years now and had the first Canon "pro90 IS" which was 10X optical zoom and I must say that Canon PowerShot A2100IS one is state of the art at the moment.
Pictures are in high quality and Image Stabilizer works great.
I added UV filter to keep the lens from scratches.
I recommend Canon PowerShot A2100IS camera as additional to your compact camera.

Take SD1200IS PowerShot Silver Canon now

great camera!!. this is a great camera for the price! the 10x optical zoom is very useful.it seemed like most camera's in this price range only came with around 4x optical zoom. the larger viewing screen is a big plus. the quality of the photo's are pretty amazing. and i really like that Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver takes AA batteries instead of an exspensive and sometime's hard to find battery pack. i use rechargable AA's to cut down on waste. i have had this camera for only a month and i am very happy with it.
Nice product, easy to use, just a couple of issues.. Takes clear pictures with great color and clarity. I've owned Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver about a month and used Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver during Christmas to take pics and video of kids, etc. Also took Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver on a trip to visit family/friends. We haven't used many manual settings yet, but only because we haven't had a chance to read the instruction manuals. I'm sure they would be just as easy to use as the rest of the features have been thus far.
I love the fact you can zoom while taking videos.
We use Energizer rechargable AA's and they last for days.
The price I paid here is about $50 less than any store I've found Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver in.

Just a couple of issues: the most notable is the time Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver takes before you can snap the next picture. It's sometimes a problem when you want quick shots, but maybe there's a way around Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver after I read that manual??
It's a little bulky and heavy, but worth Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver to me for the larger buttons and features than the smaller point-and-shoots. I found a nice compact carrying case made for GPS's that fits Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver well.
I'm hoping it'll last many years to come!
Great buy!. This is the best digital camera so far. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS Silver has all the cool features that digital cameras should have. Besides, one of the cool features is shooting video and the result came out to be exceptionally good with very good sound quality too! If you upgrade the memory card to 8GB or even 16GB, you can continuously shoot for 2 hours or more. You are buying two (digital camera and camcorder) in one! Great deal!

PowerShot SD1200IS Canon cool

If you can't afford a true DSLR.... This class of camera came about in order to satisfy the dreams of those who would have a digital SLR... IF they could afford Canon PowerShot SD1200IS and the lenses they'd like.

The image quality of the Canon SX10IS is pretty good but you always give up some image quality to gain such a large zoom range so there is a small bit of chromatic aberration, purple fringing, in the extreme zoom ranges.

The one thing that I do miss is a remote shutter release, I like to do night photography. The 2 second self-timer setting helps a bit to overcome this oversight. Also the operating temperature range is a bit limited, 32 degrees F. Anyone who likes to take winter photos may have to keep the camera under cover, against their bodies when not shooting. I haven't tried Canon PowerShot SD1200IS in below freezing temperatures yet so I don't know the practical limitations as yet.

If even this price range is too much I'd strongly suggest the Fujifilm Finepix S1000fd at less then half the price. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS has most of the features though less zoom and no external flash hotshoe. I bought the Fuji as an early Christmas present for my girlfriend and she's quite enjoying it.

March 9, 2009 UPDATE:
This has been a very good "consumer" camera but there are two things that bug me about Canon PowerShot SD1200IS so far.

The first is that the Command Dial (I think that's what they call it) is not very responsive at all. You'll see other people complain about Canon PowerShot SD1200IS as well. If you are using the dial to make exposure adjustments or if you are selecting "Scene" settings then jerk the dial in 1/4 turn increments. Simply using a smooth dialing motion won't work. Secondly, Canon PowerShot SD1200IS really sucks for manually focusing! Canon PowerShot SD1200IS is really hard to manually focus this camera. *so sad*

Secondly... because this is a consumer level camera the CCD sensor, the chip that senses the light in place of film, is a smaller sensor then pro or semi-pro cameras. This has the very sad side effect of creating "digital noise". This is the equivalent of higher ASA/ISO film having more grain and in some ways is to be expected BUT if you can afford one of the higher priced DSLR cameras then I'd go for that as the larger sensors have less digital noise.

If you want to get a little better image out of this smaller sensor try using the "dust and scratch" removal settings in your photo editing software. Try a 2 pixel setting first.

Overall Canon PowerShot SD1200IS is still a great camera. If you move up to a DSLR later then keep Canon PowerShot SD1200IS as a backup.
avoid Powershot cameras. I bought the Powershot S2 Is
S on amazon just over a year ago.. worked fine till just out of warranty, then all the pictures began to come our overexposed. I sent Canon PowerShot SD1200IS into Canon and they want 157 dollars to repair Canon PowerShot SD1200IS or replace with a refurbished model. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS cost 259 new! I wrote them and told them that I expected a lightly used expensive digital camera to work more than one year, but no dice. I'll never buy another Canon. Beware!
Not happy with it.. Greetings-- since the release of this camera I have been following all the user reviews on Amazon and the consensus seemed to be overwhelmingly positive. Based on the user reviews and other research that I did, I pulled the trigger and bought one. I was really excited about getting this camera because Canon PowerShot SD1200IS sounded like the next step up over what I currently have.

When I received the camera I began running Canon PowerShot SD1200IS through it's paces. Very soon into Canon PowerShot SD1200IS I began to see issues with the camera. Moving beyond those though, I started taking test pictures using all of the different settings available. I then loaded the images to my PC and began looking at them. What I viewed was very disappointing. First off, the images were not sharp. Secondly, the colors seemed muted and they were not very accurate to what the actual scene looked like. Lastly and on closer examination, I was stunned to see large amounts of purple fringing. This is a problem I would expect on earlier generations of digital cameras, but not now and not on a Canon. What is really sad is that purple fringing is most common in high contrast areas; with my test pictures high contrast scenes were not the case. The purple fringing explained the lack of punch, sharpness, and color accuracy. Thinking I may have received a defective camera I did some Googling. To my surprise I found other people were reporting the same problem with this camera.

I have to tell ya, prior to this Canon purchase I had used a Kodak Z650. The images I get from the Kodak blow away anything I got out of the Canon. Needless to say, the Canon was returned for refund. (I want to thank Amazon for the quick and painless processing of the return.)

Here are some other issues I found with this camera:

1. The selector wheel that is used to navigate within the menus did not translate properly. I found myself spinning Canon PowerShot SD1200IS around several times before Canon PowerShot SD1200IS would begin moving the cursor. Along with that there was a stickiness to it. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS would stick and you'd have to apply more pressure for Canon PowerShot SD1200IS to turn, this in turn caused the cursor to jump father than you wanted to go. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS was frustrating to use. You can get around all that by pressing the dial down in the corners for the direction you want to go. That seemed to translate well but Canon PowerShot SD1200IS is more time consuming. One click equals one position in the menu. If you want to reach the end of the menu you'd have to click your way through one position at a time.

2. I feel the menu layout and functionality was poorly designed and not very intuitive. There are too many layers to navigate through and too many ways to get where you want to go. Here again, my Kodak does a much better job in accessing the options and settings. And just to be clear, the Kodak has many of the same SLR functions to choose from. My point being, it's pretty much an apples and apples comparison. The Kodak is extremely easy to navigate and very easy to learn. Canon could take some lessons from them. I'm not trying to sell Kodak here. The Kodak has it's own issues. The one main thing going for the Kodak is that Canon PowerShot SD1200IS is capable of producing some stunning images, and that is the very least I'd expect from a camera.

3. The camera is pretty heavy as others have reported. It's not a problem for me but I think Canon PowerShot SD1200IS is worth mentioning again.

4. I found that the lens cap falling off was not a problem for me, but taking Canon PowerShot SD1200IS off was. I found this primarily true when you are using the lens shield that Canon supplies. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS was difficult for me to fit my fingers between the inner lens shield wall and the lens cap where the releases are located. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS was very clumsy and difficult to squeeze the tabs in order to release the cap.

I would have overlooked notes 1 to 4 if the image quality had been there. Sadly for me Canon PowerShot SD1200IS wasn't.

Why Canon A1100IS PowerShot

Absolutely love this camera!. I moved from an older Kodak Easyshare camera to this awesome camera. Canon PowerShot A1100IS takes amazing pictures no matter what, and has a setting for almost everything (you just have to take the time to figure out how to use all of the different settings). Canon PowerShot A1100IS is a perfect size to carry with my in my pocket and seriously always takes good pictures- even if Canon PowerShot A1100IS is an action shot. Sometimes Canon PowerShot A1100IS does seem like there is a little bit of a delay when taking a picture, but that really doesn't bother me at all because its worth Canon PowerShot A1100IS for the great pictures. The only slight problem I have had is getting my pictures to my photo editing application on my computer (I have a Macbook so I'm sure Canon PowerShot A1100IS would be fine on Windows), but I eventually figured Canon PowerShot A1100IS out- it's just kind of annoying. But besides that, this is by far one of the best cameras on the market for a GREAT price- I am thrilled to have Canon PowerShot A1100IS and definitely could not go back to any other type of camera. Canon is the best!
Great camera. Canon PowerShot SD1100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Pink) Purchased this camera for my wife. Canon PowerShot A1100IS is her first digital camera. I set Canon PowerShot A1100IS on automatic and she takes great pictures. Canon PowerShot A1100IS is small enough to be carried in her purse with an extra battery. I put in a 2GB SD card so there is plenty of storage. Always having in with her has encouraged her to regularly use it.

When I don't take my larger camera, Canon PowerShot A1100IS becomes our primary camera. Canon PowerShot A1100IS has enough manual setting to fit most situations and the IS is a great feature.

I definitely recommend this camera for anyone who is looking for a small
camera that is easy to use and takes great pictures.

Image Sensor Stopped Functioning after 2 Months. I bought the Canon Powershot SD1100 IS to replace a larger Minolta Dimage camera that I sometimes did not carry on short trips because of its size and weight. I used the Powershot for 2 months and was very happy with the results until one day just before Christmas I powered Canon PowerShot A1100IS up and the image sensor failed to transmit a picture. The camera had NEVER been dropped or roughly handled. I phoned Canon technical support and learned that spontaneous sensor failure is a common problem with this camera. And while the camera is under warranty so repair & return shipping will be free, I still had to pack up the camera and personally pay to ship Canon PowerShot A1100IS to their Powershot repair facility in Illinois. In my opinion, spontaneous failure of a critical camera system is unacceptable, and the fact that Canon knows about this problem and still requires customers to pay to ship their cameras for warranty repair is irresponsible. I would not recommend buying the Powershot SD 1100, and I certainly won't be doing business with Canon again.

Details about A480 MP 10 Black Canon

Excellent Camera for the price. I bought Canon A480 10 MP Black camera to experiment my photography abilities.. and Canon A480 10 MP Black is a perfect for a beginner or people who want to take serious photos.. I love the color accent feature on Canon A480 10 MP Black cam.. you can get better deals elsewhere. .if amazon is expensive.. Canon A480 10 MP Black is a great camera.. extremely handy and cute looking too!
Better than I thought!. I have been a loyal Fujifilm camera owner for as long as I can remember. I have always loved their cameras and the ease of use. When searching for a new camera this spring, my friend insisted I branch out to a new brand. As difficult as Canon A480 10 MP Black was (I hate change!) I purchased this camera. I LOVE IT!!! For the same price range, this camera trumps the other camera I was looking at. Tons more features! At first these features intimidated me, but Canon makes Canon A480 10 MP Black easy! The menus use lots of pictures and simple words. So the photographer dummy I am doesnt get confused. I want to point...and shoot...then print. I am not taking fancy pictures or looking to make poster prints. I have 4 kids, and just want to capture the moments. This camera is great! But even if you ARE an expert, this camera has enough features to keep you satisfied.

The BEST feature is how QUICKLY Canon A480 10 MP Black turns out! Almost instant! Within a blink of an eye the camera is on and ready to take pics. Just as quick between pics too!! My old camera must have had a 5 second delay at least!

And the zoom!!! The zoom is amazing! Crystal Clear pictures at full zoom...no joke!!! My old camera got grainy once I hit the digital zoom level. Canon A480 10 MP Black looks blurry on screen, but once you load Canon A480 10 MP Black to your computer you see that its crystal clear sharp and crisp! As if you were right next to the object. I couldnt believe it!!

The camera is very small too! Fits in my back jeans pocket so i can carry Canon A480 10 MP Black everywhere! Its less bulky than my cell phone! Weighs about the same as my cell phone too, even with the battery in.

Great camera! I am glad my friend talked me into this one! Amazon offered the best price around (By $30!) so I got a great deal. I am very pleased!

The next test is to see if Canon A480 10 MP Black will stand the test of time. My FujiFilm cameras all lasted a long time and took a beating! (One still works and is now my daughters camera) I hope Canon is just as sturdy. Like I said, with 4 kids... things get dropped! :(

Highly recommended camera! No surprise why Canons are rated the #1 consumer camera around!

Why 10 A480 Silver Canon MP

Rich features, poor manual, decent image quality. This a replacement for a 5 year old Sony Cybershot (3.2 Megapixels). Image quality is decent but not noticeably different than my old one. Even with the highest quality image option selected, 8 Megapixels only takes ~3MB (good ;o).

This is rich with features, camera-manual probably covers Canon A480 10 MP Silver all but does not make Canon A480 10 MP Silver intuitive, unless you read Canon A480 10 MP Silver 5 times and try to structure the contents in your mind. So, you need to refer to manual often for probably months before you get used to all the features.

The software does NOT seem to support Vista. My laptop does not detect the camera when you hook Canon A480 10 MP Silver up even though Canon A480 10 MP Silver says drivers are loaded. I am having to pull out the memory card and load Canon A480 10 MP Silver directly to my laptop (or use my work laptop with xp on it).

No issues with shipping and the state of the product received.
Great Value for lots of features.. Good for general photography. Like the options with shutter and aperture priority. Software is easy to install and is user friendly. Only negative has been capturing sporting events. The delay makes Canon A480 10 MP Silver a guessing game when attempting to stop action.
Canon Powershot A590IS. The camera's features are more abundant and much easier to figure out than with the 4 year old 3MP Olympus I was using. Have not even looked at the manual. I wish Canon had put on a larger flash as the light drops off in the picture at about 10-12 feet. But taking pictures outside with sun that is not an issue. I have taken about 400 pics using the flash set to auto still using the original set of batteries (copper tops). Camera has shutter priority and aperature priority, features usually found on more expensive equipment. I am happy with my purchase as the the lens fully retracts into the body and covers itself and am able to carry Canon A480 10 MP Silver in my jeans pants pocket for easy portability. For the money you can't beat this camera.

Just got 10 Navy MP A480 Blue Camera Canon

I LOVE this little camera!. Researched and researched cameras until I was researched OUT! Saw this little jewel and decided (based on other reviews) I should try it. SOOOOO glad I did! Human-friendly camera, easy to use, GREAT pics and just what else could you ask for? Oh yeah....was at a GREAT price. Got an HP camera a couple years ago, cost much more and wasn't anywhere as user-friendly as this one. Plus, Canon A480 10 MP Camera Navy Blue kept "eating" batteries so couldn't keep Canon A480 10 MP Camera Navy Blue working. Eveyone that has seen this one and the pics taken are astounded by them. If you're looking for a reasonably priced, easy to use camera that will delight you with beautiful results of your efforts....BUY THIS ONE!!!!
Great Value - Great Camera. We looked a long time and read hundreds of reviews for various camera's for my teen daugher. Canon A480 10 MP Camera Navy Blue got great reviews and I couldn't beat the price! My daughter's favorite color is orange so that was a perk to the product. The camera is great, she is thrilled!
Awesome Camera - Great Price!!. I love this camera. So far, and I have only been using Canon A480 10 MP Camera Navy Blue for a month, I see no problems or concerns at all. I use rechargable batteries and they last a long time in the camera. Canon A480 10 MP Camera Navy Blue takes good quality & color pictures. Also came with a great price tag!!! Would definately recommend!!

Do you really like 12.1 PowerShot Camera Digital MP Canon SD970IS Silver ?

Fast Shipping and Awesome Camera. I ordered this camera on a Monday night, with the free shipping Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver came Thursday afternoon. This is such an awesome upgrade from my 35mm Rebel Ti. Love at first sight, I would recommend this for anyone looking!
Cannon XS Rebel SLR Digial Camera. As a long time professional Videoographer, I find little time to enjoy working with fillm cameras. When my old SLR got dropped I finally broke down and got a state of the art entry level camera in digidal. Who needs all the bells and whistles if you know how to use a camera? they are all her in spades and show a lot of fore thought. There are things I would have never thought of putting on a camera, post work yes just not on the camera. Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver is for all who think they are going to grow into the photo job field, and will make a lot of money if the tallent is there. If not Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver is a low cost camera and will not break the bank if the tallent dos'nt show up later in life. I love this camera and would not want the next level up, Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver was more than I would ever use, I'm never going to be Jimmy Olsen, so I will keep the XS, thank you Cannon Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver is great.
For the money, the Rebel XS delivers.. **Revised 14 Feb 2009**

(4.5/5 stars)

This year I decided to finally get a digital SLR. The market is filled with excellent choices and early January saw a plunge in prices that has since receded, so I feel like I picked a good time to buy. The downside of having so many options, though, was trying to decide which one was right for me. Not being too familiar with dSLRs, I read lots of reviews and learned the terminology, and after a couple weeks finally decided on the Canon Rebel XS.

Based on what I was willing to pay (around $650 or less), I considered three other cameras before buying this one: The Canon Rebel XSi, the Nikon D60, and the Pentax K200D. I think Nikon has excellent offerings at the "enthusiast/semi pro" level (D80/D90 and D300, respectively) that are arguably superior to Canon's lineup, but I was disappointed by the D60 in general, mostly due to the lack of autofocus compatibility with older lenses. The main attraction of the Pentax is the high build quality with weather sealing, but Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver also sports a decent quality kit lens, a large viewfinder, and internal image stabilization. What concerned me about the K200D was the image quality, especially with JPEGs, as reported in a number of pro reviews. As is the case with many entering the dSLR world, image quality was my #1 consideration. Finally, a word about Live View, which many feel is a "feature of the month" that is perhaps less useful than the hype might suggest. I have personally found Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver to be a useful photographic tool in certain situations, and Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver is notably lacking on the Nikon and Pentax models that I considered.

So, left with the Canons, I considered what I might get with the XSi for the nearly $200 extra. As a beginner I simply wasn't convinced that the additional features on the XSi were worth the extra cash, the image quality the two cameras being basically equal. So I sprang for the XS, got the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens with the savings, and still had some cash left in my pocket. Generally I've been quite happy with my decision. There is a lot of talk about how camera makers "intentionally cripple" their entry-level models, but you're unlikely to notice this if it's your first dSLR. If you pay more for the next step up, you're arguably paying a premium for new technology that you won't even notice or appreciate that much, and will either be commonplace or obsolete in just a couple years. If I had spent more I think I would have skipped the XSi and gone for the 40D, which sports a better build and a nicer kit lens, the Pentax K20D, or perhaps the Nikon D80 or D90. My plan is to stick with the XS for a few years until Canon gives me a compelling reason to upgrade.

So anyway, what is my impression of the Rebel XS after 3 weeks and over 1000 pictures? Very good. Obviously Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver will take some time to make a more complete assessment, but here are my thoughts so far:

The good:

- Image Quality. Period. This is the Canon trademark. The basic JPEG modes are great when you don't want to bother with the creative stuff. The level of sharpness and the color rendition are perfect for my tastes, and can be easily adjusted.

- Performance at High ISO. Most of my photos so far have been taken in low light situations (it's a cold, dark January in Minnesota), and I've decided there's one thing everyone looking at dSLRs should consider carefully: image quality at high ISO speeds. Using higher ISO speeds is extremely useful when trying to get sharp pictures in low light situations (without using a flash). Simply put, in the entry level market Canon outperforms the competition. I've taken a number of pictures at ISO 1600 that look great, especially with the in-camera noise reduction turned on. At normal print sizes the quality difference compared to lower ISO speeds is very minimal.

- Ease of Use. The camera puts all the essential controls at your fingertips. Adjusting ISO, exposure compensation, metering mode, and white balance, not to mention picture styles and autofocus mode, are all quick and intuitive operations with this camera. The only thing that takes a little more time is manually tweaking the white balance, which I seem to do a lot under incandescent light. Also, after activating live view in the menu system, Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver can be turned on or off at the press of a button.

- The camera is small, light, and physically attractive. With my 50mm lens attached, the camera is remarkably compact and very lightweight. Also, having dealt with the lag of compact digitals for years, the responsiveness of this camera is especially noticeable.

- Kit lens. While the 18-55mm IS lens that ships with the camera leaves something to be desired in terms of build quality (and manual operation), the optical quality actually surprised me. I have yet to find a good reason to upgrade.

- Software. The image editing and organizing programs that come with the camera are not the most refined, but they are fairly powerful, and likely adequate for those who don't want to part with another $200 or more for an image editing program. Also, you can control the camera remotely from your computer with live view, which is cool, if not extremely useful.

A few complaints:

- Build/Grip: One of the big reasons I didn't spring for the XSi was because Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver offered no improvement in the way of build quality or ergonomics (besides the marginally better grip material). The downside of this camera's low weight is the plastic construction. Especially compared to a Pentax (which is also plastic but has a metal frame and usually weather sealing), there's a noticeable difference in the way Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver feels in your hands. There are advantages to each approach, but some will prefer a more solid (and heavy) construction. Also, some reviewers complain about the grip. I have relatively long fingers, and while I agree that Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver is a little cramped and awkward compared to its rivals, it's a secure grip and while taking pictures I've never found Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver to be uncomfortable. I have to say that while the build and grip are adequate, they do detract somewhat from the overall photographic experience. I would give more weight to these factors if I were to buy again.

- Canon makes a lot of lenses, and this was a chief selling point for me. However, with time I've realized that Canon has not committed to its APS-C (EF-S) lens system in the same way that most other manufacturers have. Its lens offerings continue to be 35mm/"full frame" -centric, leaving me feeling a bit left out. Just to be clear, you can use EF lenses on your Rebel XS, but the EF zooms have focal lengths that are not ideal for the APS-C sensor size. Looking at the overall lens lineup, there just aren't too many lenses below $1000 that get me excited. This has led me to eye other manufacturers' lens systems enviously, and I continue to contemplate switching systems. Take some time to consider your probable lens needs before committing to a system.

- The viewfinder is fairly small. When dealing with a shallow depth of field in low light and I want to get the focus just right, I often switch to live view to zoom in and focus manually (This is actually very handy). The only basis I have for comparison is my ancient Minolta film SLR that sports a much brighter viewfinder. That said, when I compared the XS and XSi, I didn't really notice the difference between the two. Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver seems that APS-C cameras generally have smaller viewfinders that 35mm/full frame cameras. However, this is an important aspect of the photographic experience, so give Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver due consideration as you compare cameras.

- Slow continuous shooting rate. If you're shooting action (sports, moving animals, etc.) in RAW you'll want to look elsewhere. The JPEG rate (3 fps) is comparable to competitors and has the advantage of being able to shoot until the card is full. In RAW, however, you'll find that the 1.5 fps (for 5 frames) is pretty slow. I don't generally shoot action so this was not an important consideration for me.

Overall: Considering the price of the Rebel XS and the overall quality of the package (image quality and feature set), I'm convinced Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver gives you the most bang for your buck of cameras below $500. This camera is capable of taking very nice photographs, and I find the control layout to be very intuitive. The only things that leave me feeling somewhat unsatisfied are (1) the relatively "cheap" or plastic feel of the camera (2) the grip, which is satisfactory but does not fit the shape of my hand like other cameras, and (3) the lens lineup. I recommend spending some time holding the camera (and others) and researching lenses to make sure the XS will meet your needs. Having said that, the image quality of this camera is excellent, and I am most satisfied by its low-light performance. Furthermore, if you think you'll upgrade in the next several years, I have a feeling Canon will be forced to compete aggressively with Nikon in the enthusiast range, so you can be confident you'll have some good options down the road.

Other options to consider:

In the entry-level market, the Olympus Evolt E420 10MP Digital SLR Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko Lens provides an interesting and very cost-effective choice, particularly for those who value small size. To take full advantage of the minute camera, you'll want to consider getting the tiny 25mm pancake lens in addition to the standard zoom. The E-420 delivers on features too, with live view and a good dust control system. The downsides? First, there is no in-body image stabilization, unlike its bigger brother, the E-520 (also a good option). Also, lens selection is limited due to the unique sensor size. That said, the lenses are designed specifically for "four thirds" sensors as opposed to "full frame", and thus have more appropriate focal lengths. More importantly, several of the Olympus Zuiko lenses get rave reviews for their optical quality. A final downside is that the "four thirds" image quality, in particular dynamic range and high ISO, isn't quite on par with Canon or Nikon. However, I suspect that for many people Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver will be more than good enough.

For those who want a more upscale dSLR experience in the entry-level market segment, I would recommend the Pentax K200D 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Shake Reduction 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens. You get a quality build, weatherproofing, a nice viewfinder, and arguably the best built kit lens there is (complete with a nice lens hood!). Make sure you can live with the image quality if you plan on shooting JPEG and keep in mind there's no live view, but if you read owner reviews you'll find very few unhappy customers.

If you're willing to pay more than $700 and can live without more recent features like live view, the Nikon D80 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-135mm AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens is apparently an excellent camera. Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver is roughly on par the XS and XSi in terms of image quality and apparently very well put together. Personally I would have a hard time putting down that kind of money for an older camera, but keep in mind you get a nice zoom lens (without Nikon's Vibration Reduction, though). If you opt for the body only you could find a nice VR lens to go with it.

Another camera that is currently in the same price range as the D80 is the Pentax K20D 14.6MP Digital SLR Camera with Shake Reduction and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL II Lens. This camera could be categorized more as "semi-pro" or "enthusiast", and is best for those eager to take greater manual control of their camera. The new sensor resolves the image quality issues of the K200D and has greater resolution. Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver has live view, but the implementation is apparently pretty crude. All in all, Canon PowerShot SD970IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera Silver sounds like this is a very good deal at current pricing and again, you'll find very few unhappy users.

Of course, the talk of the town these days is the Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens, which by all accounts equals its Canon rivals on image quality and delivers a very nice feature set including HD video. For this, though, you'll need to pay a pretty penny (around $1100). And at that price, you'll want to give full consideration to the well-built Canon EOS 40D 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens, or its more expensive sibling, the Canon EOS 50D 15.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens.

CBK4-300 Rechargeable Canon Battery forever

Great Product. I recently bought a Canon S3 IS camera and was pleased to note that Canon CBK4-300 Rechargeable Battery uses AA batteries rather than the costly rechargeable batteries I had in my Canon G2 (about $50 per). I didn't however want to go to the expense and bother of constantly having to replace AA batteries. I was delighted to find this rechargeable option and purchased. To date, Canon CBK4-300 Rechargeable Battery works great. I can use rechargeable batteries most of the time and have non-rechargeable batteries for emergencies (e.g., trips) Great find and purchase. Good value
These batteries really last. I went with the Canon batteries & charger to avoid any problems with the Canon digital camera they are used for. Whenever I've used rechargeable batteries in an electronic device, they never seem to last long enough. So for the camera, I went with the same brand batteries. I've taken probably 100 photos, use the flash and zoom often, and had the camera on for almost two hours straight in a photography class and the batteries still don't show any loss of power with respect to the camera's battery status indicator. And since this kit comes with 4 batteries, I always have 2 charged spares. Maybe cheaper rechargeables would work, but Canon CBK4-300 Rechargeable Battery wasn't worth the risk and hassle if they failed right when I needed them.
Agrivation saver!. These rechargable batteries and charging unit have saved me untold agrivation from dead or untimely battery failure. One of the worst was needing to take a last picture or two and have the batteries die in the camera and no new ones available.

If you take pictures with modern high power consuming cameras with big memories, you will need one of these. Canon CBK4-300 Rechargeable Battery kind of agrivation will be a thing of the past.

12.1 MP PowerShot Digital Camera Canon SD780IS and you

Awsome. This camera is priced well, Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera is small and lightweight, and Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera takes incredible pictures. Simple as that! Recommended highly, I've been using Canon cameras for 26 years. Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera is better than my AE1 Program, better than my EOS 630, and the Canon software makes your pictures be all that they can be. The price at Amazon is terrific!!! Don't forget the 8GB SD card. That price is great too, might as well buy 2 of them! Only one problem found, if you want to call Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera that, my non-canon auto focus lens for my EOS 630 WILL NOT work on this camera. But the Canon auto focus lens will.
Happy Shooting
Quite nice.. I like the camera, Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera was exactly what i was looking after owning a 35mm Rebel.
Canon XSi/450D. Yet another GREAT Canon product.

If you're going to use more than the 'automatic' settings, (e.g. Av/Tv/bracketing etc.), there's a large 'learning curve', but well worth it! I enjoy Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera .

Canon CBK4-300 Battery Rechargeable lies

Canon Battery Charger Kit. Much better than having to take pounds of non-rechargeable batteries on trips. Plugs in anywhere (with the appropriate adaptors plugs); takes little space. Wouldn't go anywhere without it! I love Canon CBK4-300 Rechargeable Battery .

Happy on 12.1 MP PowerShot SD780IS Canon

Excellent camera. I bought Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP camera after having owned the Rebel EOS DS6041 for years. I liked the old camera so much that I purchased Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP newer model. Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP camera is easy to use and the photo quality is excellent. I would recommend Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP camera to anyone looking to purchase a digital slr type camera.
Light & Strong. I love this camera-- I have worked with a lot of Canon cameras--and this one is right up there with the Canon 40d. Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP is light and easy to shoot with. The only thing that I was suprised with is that Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP doesn't have a compact flash drive, which is the first Canon camera I have used to have that. But Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP hasn't been an inconvenience, and Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP works great.
Canon EOS 450D Camera. The camera is evolutionary on the Canon EOS 40D model with greater megapixels, in a compact package. Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP handles easily, and does not increase the burden on the user because of excess weight. The image stabilization feauture on the 18-55MM lense is a pleasant addition to the kit lense, and gives a greater level of control over pictures. I am forced to seek out image stabilization lenses because the excess weight causes my hands to shake. I look forward to using the Camera in Florence and Venice this Fall.

About a480 canon powershot 10 mp

Review SD 1100IS. Canon PowerShot SD1100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver) This camera replaced an SD 850 which was twice as expensive and had the unfortunate lens mechanism failure after 15 months (3 months out of warranty). Otherwise that camera was great. After researching reliability I decided to get the PowerShot SD 1100IS. I liked the simplicity and overall features so much that I got a second one for our daughter. Both were purchased through Amazon, and came with free shipping and a competitive price. Very happy with photo results. We used canon powershot a480 10 mp camera for a recent 3 week cycling tour in France, and the size is perfect for tucking into a cycling jersey or handlebar bag. Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS. We bought this camera and like canon powershot a480 10 mp so much that we bought a second one for our daughter. canon powershot a480 10 mp is so small and light and has so many great features including the video camera and the macro to take shots really close up. Our daughter is an artist and that feature is what sold her on it. She is taking some amazing shots. The battery lasts a long time if you don't use the camera to delete photos. My husbands wants his own now to carry everywhere like I do. One of my best purchases. I absolutely love my new Canon Powershot camera and my printer. The price was great!!!From now on, I'm checking out Amazon.com for my electronic purchases. Thanks so much Amazon.com!! I enjoy canon powershot a480 10 mp .

NB-7L Canon Battery headache

Long lasting Battery. I took more than 130 photos in addition to 5 minutes movies all with LCD on without any need to recharge. Canon NB-7L Battery is so powerful. the battery is much powerful than the one for SD 750, NB-4L family. 1120 mAh is great.
Good, but expensive. I bought this battery as a spare to use with a Canon SD870. As far as I can tell, Canon NB-7L Battery is the same as the battery that came with the camera. A battery like this has advantages and disadvantages. Canon NB-7L Battery is small and flat, so a camera using this battery can be compact and slim. On the other hand you can't just run into any convenience store and buy a replacement like you could for AA batteries. Since a replacement might be hard to find on short notice, I think a spare is a necessity. Both the original and the one I bought from Amazon work great. They last a long time before they need to be recharged. The only problem I have with the battery is that Canon NB-7L Battery was very expensive. I haven't tried any cheaper batteries from other companies to see how their performance compares, but if I were to buy another battery for the SD870 I'd try a cheaper copy.
Extra Battery for Canon Digital. Not use to charging camera batteries, so I purchased an extra battery to carry in my camera bag. This way, I'll always be ready for more pictures when the first battery runs out.... So far, Canon NB-7L Battery works like a charm. Received quickly as promised.

Canon sd780is mp 12.1 powershot chance

Great Features, Size, and Speed - Poor Still Picture Quality. This camera is well built, has a decent menu structure, is pretty small and the response time is also pretty good.

The video at 640x480 30fps is extremely good and comes close to camcorder quality. I bought the standard 4gb Sandisk Memory Stick Duo Pro not the Ultra or Extreme and that memory card had no issues with recording the video flawlessly. At 4gb you get 50 minutes of video.

The biggest let down is the still picture quality. When you zoom in, canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp looks like if you were to apply the Diffuse filter in Photoshop to the picture (looks like the pixels run together). For indoor shots, there are a lot of over compression artifacts some of which look like hundreds of darker spots in the image. The picture auto focus and image stabilization seem to improve that capability only slightly as I took pictures of my daughter on a swing and they were a little blurry. The picture will also ALWAYS be be blurry on the right side of the image. The purple fringing around high contrast differences in the image is very noticeable.

Overall, this is still a decent camera that you can easily bring with you anywhere. With the 4gb memory, you can capture 846 images at 12 megapixels and 50 minutes of video at 640x480 30fps. This makes canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp a powerful tool that is always ready to get those unexpected shots or video if you carry canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp on you regularly and since canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp is a pretty small camera this is easy to do.

I am still considering returning the camera due to the picture quality.
Sony Camera Review. The camera takes excellent pictures and is light and easy to use. I would like the screen to be a little larger and for a higher zoom. The dial is a bit of a problem in that canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp turns and I don't realize what mode I am taking the picture in. I like it!
Takes GREAT pictures in Low Lighting!. I bought this camera because Consumer Reports rated canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp #1 for subcompact digital cameras. canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp was also only $299 here on Amazon.com (the price listed today is over $400). I have four criteria when canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp comes to a compact digital camera.

1. canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp must have a fast response time, both when I turn canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp on and in between shots. This Sony Cybershot is AWESOME. canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp is literally on and ready to shoot within milliseconds of hitting the power button. There's also NO delay between shots, which has been the bane of all the digital cameras I've ever owned. The ability to go from shot to shot without worrying about missing a great action photo or having to twiddle my thumbs while canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp writes to the compact flash or smart disk is a god send.

2. canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp must take GREAT shots in low lighting. I don't know how many crappy photos I've taken indoors at parties, museums, and more. I know we all have, even with those cameras that have 'indoor' modes but require a tripod to take a clear picture. Well, this baby takes absolutely stunning low light photos using ISO or ISO+ mode. They are clear and not at all blurry. Check out the photos I uploaded from a visit to a local aquarium in the Jelly Fish exhibit (where it's as dark as night in there). Not only did I NOT have to use a tripod to get a clear shot, but the photos came out rich in color and detail, especially considering this is not a DSLR.

3. canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp must have several scene modes. I am addicted to these modes as they often save me from some very bad shots. I am clueless on how to set anything manually. This camera offers a nice selection of scene modes, my favorite so far being the ISO+ for low light, indoor settings. But the landscape, portrait, and other modes have all proved equally adept at clear, brilliant pictures.

4. canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp must have a large LCD. My last digital camera had a 1.8" LCD and canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp was painfully small. I often couldn't tell that shots were out of focus until I imported them to my desktop. The Sony Cybershot has a vividly clear LCD that is large and bright, perfect for spotting bad shots on the spot. No more wondering if I've taken a good photo or not.

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the Sony Cybershot. The only reason I'm not giving canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp 5 stars is because canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp only has 3X optical zoom, up to 6X with digital. My last digital camera had 12X with digital zoom, and canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp was disappointing to find that even though I was buying a higher end subcompact camera, the zoom was a bit on the skimpy side.

Nevertheless, I won't be using my old digital camera even with its 12X zoom because the Sony blows canon powershot sd780is 12.1 mp out of the water in terms of picture quality, compactness, and speed.

Just got 12.1 D10 Canon PowerShot MP

Digiscoping. This is a super camera for digiscoping birds and other distant animals. Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP seems to be a bit slower than my Nikon P80, but otherwise it's a great choice.

Dix Smith
Ft. Collins, CO
practical. The rubber pads of the camera serves its purpose, Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP has good handling. Also the hot shoe attachment is really great when taking pictures of far away objects in low light.
I'm a photographer and this camera is awful!!!. I've had at least a dozen digital cameras over the past seven years. My main camera is a digital SLR, but I like to have a small pocket size camera to keep in my purse. I was upgrading from a 5 MP camera and read tons of reviews on this camera.... pretty much everything I read said this was an awesome camera and I loved the price tag, so I got it. I have never been so disappointed in a camera! The pictures are almost always out of focus, and unless you're in *really* good light, the pictures are very grainy! And probably the most annoying part is that you have to wait a long time for Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP to say it's ready to take the picture.... and then Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP still turns out blury! I messed with Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP for almost two weeks and finally gave up. I returned Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP and ended up with the Digital Elph - the MP's aren't as high, but Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP takes really nice pictures and a heck of a lot faster! I will never buy a nikon point and shoot again.

MP 12 Canon PowerShot SX200IS suck

Amazing. I had a 7.1 MP Canon and I when I saw this one I had to get one. I absolutely love it. Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP is durable, fast, and does everything I need. The one gripe I have is the battery cover keeps open due to the way I hold it. Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP is kind of a pain but Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP is not a huge problem. Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP takes the most amazing pictures and the image stabilization helps with the fast and one handed pictures. I like this camera so much I have already bought Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP for my brothers family.
Good But!!!!!!!. This is the first time that I had a problem with a cannon camera, lens would not shut all the way and when Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP did Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP would come up with a lens error. This happened the first day i bought Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP and we were leaving in 2 days for vacation, so i took Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP and used it. Takes great pictures, i had a s500 befor this one and Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP still works great. I am still raiting this camera 5 star because Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP was just a fluk thing that happened only thing is I had to pay 15.00 to ship Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP to cannon and they replace lens asembly for free but, never got any money back. I recomend this camera, just because Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP doesnt matter about what megapixes you get is lens qulity that counts, you can look that up at [...]
Great replacement for my Nikon S3. I purchased this camera after extensive research. I have three kids and I love taking pictures. I have no time for the SLR so a point and shoot was my only option. I bought the Nikon S3 when Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP first came out (before reviews) and I regret it. Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP takes AWEFUL lowlight pictures. I checked out the new Sony and Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP had all sorts of fun things including the touch screen but Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP took rotten lowlight pictures as well. I also checked out Olympus, Panasonic, another Canon and Pentex and none of them took good lowlight pictures.

Things I do miss about the Nikon - 1) Docking station for battery charging and uploading. Great feature. 2) Date stamping on every picture if I want. 3) More compact 4) Backlight mode 5) On camera cropping

Cons with the Canon - 1) the USB cable compartment is VERY hard to open and you can barely get the cable in. I fear that the door will eventually break. 2) No ability to perform on camera cropping.

Make sure you buy an extra battery and a bigger memory card.
